The Stepwise Tutorial to Tsa Precheck Application

Discover How to Fill Out the Tsa Precheck Application

[Music].hi I'm Kate white welcome back to my.channel as a consultant who works with.clients all across the country I spend a.lot of my time at the airport and on.planes one of the things that makes.traveling a lot easier is having TSA.PreCheck and if you don't already have.TSA PreCheck or know what it is you've.probably seen the signs for it at the.airport.basically tsa PreCheck is this US.government program that allows certain.qualified or verified travelers to go.through a faster security screening.process I've gotten questions even from.fellow consultants who just haven't gone.through the process of just how to do it.so in this video I just want to lay out.the key things you should know about tsa.PreCheck and the basics of how to apply.you know I know this topic isn't.applicable to some people who watch my.channel because I think there are a lot.of you who are not based in the US I.have been thinking about doing a video.that's like a beginner's guide to.Airport travel or something like that.so if that would be interesting to you.if you'd like to see that please give.this video a like or let me know in the.comments below but for those of you who.are interested in what TSA PreCheck is.and how to get it hope this helps so.again what is TSA PreCheck it's a.program that allows certain travelers to.go through a faster security screening.process at the airport and it's.available at about 200 US airports on.about 60 different airlines the main.benefit of TSA PreCheck is that you go.through a faster security live the.average security line just for regular.security screening is about 30 minutes.while for TSA PreCheck it's about 10.minutes and I can attest that the 10.minute average is right because most of.the time actually for me it takes me 2.to 3 minutes to get through security I.know it's really fast it really depends.on the airport and how much traffic.there is there I've also been through a.TSA PreCheck line that took about 15 to.20 minutes now the reason the TSA.PreCheck line is so much faster than the.regular security line is because you.don't have to take off your shoes you.don't need to take out your laptop and.put it in a separate.tre you don't need to take off any light.outerwear and you also don't need to.take out your liquids in your clear.plastic bag all you have to do is put.your bags on the belt push them through.and then you go through one of the.regular scanners rather than the.full-body scanner now you still have to.follow all the rules in terms of having.your liquids be under a hundred.milliliters and things like that but you.just don't need to take them out it's.just a much faster process by putting.your bags in without having to take out.your laptop your liquids your shoes or.anything like that so of course the time.saved is a huge benefit and it just.allows you a bit more flexibility as you.plan your travel to the airport but I.also just find the convenience of not.having to take things out of my bag so.worth it because we all know when you.cut to the end of the security line and.you're trying to you know rummage.through your bags so you can put your.laptop back in and you don't want to.back up the line people are behind you.so it's just so much easier to grab your.things and go now there are some.requirements in order to qualify for TSA.PreCheck and be able to apply so you do.have to be a US citizen or a lawful.permanent resident so someone who has a.green card and you have to have a clean.record and not be found guilty of any.felonies or there's like a list of.criminal offenses that you can't be.found guilty of if you want to qualify.for TSA PreCheck so this is a US.government program and it allows for.faster security screening when you're.leaving from a u.s. airport to one of.the airports that are on the list of 200.or so that means it doesn't apply if you.are traveling in a foreign country or if.you're coming from a foreign country to.the US that TSA PreCheck line is.irrelevant so let's say you meet those.requirements how do you apply there are.a couple of ways that you can apply for.and get TSA PreCheck one of them being.to just go to the TSA website and.applying for it there but I actually.recommend applying for Global Entry.Global Entry is another program related.to traveling in and out of the u.s. and.what it does is it lets you go through a.faster customs process when you're.coming from a foreign country back into.the United States and the cool thing is.that if you apply for.are qualified for a global entry then.you automatically get TSA PreCheck as.well so if you apply just for TSA.PreCheck it costs you $85 and that lasts.you for five years Global Entry on the.other hand costs $100 and it also lasts.you for five years so for a 15 dollar.difference you actually get more.benefits because you have the added.benefit of going through a faster.customs line when you come back from an.international destination the process.for applying for tsa PreCheck or Global.Entry whichever one you decide to do I.recommend Global Entry is pretty much.the same you first submit an application.online which takes I think five to ten.minutes and that's just like a.pre-screening process once you submit.the application online then you'll.schedule an in-person appointment at one.of the enrollment centers and most of.the enrollment centers are just at the.airport but I think there are some that.are in other locations but you can.basically search for any enrollment.center by your location at the in-person.appointment you'll bring documents like.your passport and you'll get your.fingerprints taken and that also just.takes about 10 to 15 minutes once that.appointment is done then you wait a few.weeks I think the website says it takes.about two to three weeks but I've also.heard people waiting for several months.depending on how busy the season is but.however many weeks later you'll get a.known traveler number your known.traveler number is a nine digit number.and depending on if you do just TSA.PreCheck or if you do Global Entry the.makeup of numbers and letters will be.different but that is the number that.you then end up putting on all of your.future travel reservations the best.thing to do would actually be to make.sure you have an airline account with.whatever airline you are flying with and.then on your profile itself you can put.that known traveler number that way.whenever you booked a ticket through.that airline and you're logged in you.don't have to worry about inputting your.number when you put that number either.on your account or on the booking itself.then for that ticket you'll see a TSA.PreCheck sign on your boarding pass and.then that'll let you go through the TSA.PreCheck line and go through a much.faster and easier security process so of.course.for people like me who travel almost.weekly it's really a benefit to have TSA.PreCheck even if you're not a frequent.traveler Global Entry is $100 and TSA.PreCheck is $85 and again it lasts for.five years so that means for twenty.dollars or less per year you would be.able to get this benefit that will just.give you ease of mind give you.convenience speed comfort all of that.there is a possible way to waive that.application fee for TSA PreCheck and.that is through a certain credit card so.some credit cards will either give you a.credit or allow you to use points to pay.for your tsa PreCheck application so.I'll include a link to a list of the.credit cards that offer that perk as of.now I would note though that most of the.credit cards on that list have an annual.fee so you know you're paying an annual.fee for the credit card and getting.those benefits with the added small.benefit of getting TSA PreCheck covered.but it might actually be more worth it.to just pay the fee for TSA PreCheck or.Global Entry one other way that you.might get TSA PreCheck and maybe this.has happened to you before I know this.has happened to me in the past is that.TSA PreCheck will just randomly show up.on your boarding pass even if you have.never applied so I think they do this.for marketing purposes and they'll just.determine certain low-risk individuals I.guess and give them TSA PreCheck so they.can see how convenient it is and.hopefully encourage them to apply so.maybe that'll happen to you and you can.try it out and see if it's something.that you want to invest in so if you've.been thinking about getting TSA PreCheck.but haven't really known where to start.I hope this was helpful I just want to.say thank you for all the positive.feedback you've been leaving on my past.three videos I kind of took a break and.now I'm trying to post every Tuesday so.let me know if that's working out for.you and what other type of content you'd.like to see as always thank you so much.for watching and I will see you in the.next one bye.[Music].[Music].[Music].
