- Most people on Medicare have questionsabout how the claims are paid.If you came from a private planwhere you had to reconcile all your billsand that was really confusing and frustrating, you might be happily surprisedif you're on a Medicare supplementhow that process has gotten much easier, and we talk about it in this video.(lighthearted music)So, if you have a Medicare supplement, it is wonderful. So, let's assume you have the most popular planthat most people in America have right nowwhich is a plan F, in which case, you have no deductible, no copays, no coinsurance. It's smooth. All you do is pay your monthly premiumand when you go to the doctor's office, you give them your Medicare cardand you give them your Medicare supplement insurance card. So, they handle all the coordination of the billing. The doctor's office will submit the bill to Medicare,Medicare will pay 80%, the insurance company will pay 20%.You don't pay anything other than your monthly premiumand you will get what is known as an EOB.So, a lot of people get confusedwhen they first go on Medicarebecause they get that and they think uh-oh, I owe this. And it'll say on there somewhere, this is not a bill. You don't have to pay it.So, before you panic, read that. It'll be an explanation of your benefitsand it'll show you how much Medicare paid for this procedureand then, they'll see how much your insurance paid, and then, it'll say if this was fraudulent, that you actually didn't get this service, please call Medicare and report the fraud. And that's just for your benefitto make sure that everything looks goodand that there's no fraud. You don't have to do anything with it.You can throw it away. Now, if you don't have a Medicare supplement plan F,then you have a deductible,so you will pay that first annual deductiblebefore your insurance kicks in.So now, you'll get the explanation of benefitsthat shows that, and then, you'll get a bill from your insurance companythat says you owe this, and you'll,typically, it's one doctor visit, and then, for the rest of the year, you don't have any more billing. You'll just get your explanation of benefits showingwhat was paid by Medicare, what was paid by your Medicare supplement insurance. If you have Medicare Advantage,it gets a little more complicatedbecause as you know with Medicare Advantage, you pay as you go.So, you typically will have a little skin in the gamewhatever you get done. All you need is your Med Advantage card. You will give that both to the doctor's officeand to the pharmacy. So, when you give that to the doctor's office, then they will send it to the insurance companyand then you will get a billthat says this is your cost here. This is your percentagethat you must pay for your procedure. You're not getting anything from Medicarebecause Medicare Advantage is private Medicare, okay? It's governed by the Medicare system, but none of the bills are going to Medicare. It's all being handled by your Medicare Advantage company. So, it's a quick video.Tried to break it down and show you that it's pretty simple, but if you have other plans and you have more questions, scroll down to the very bottom of the comments,if you're watching on a phone, you have to scroll way, way, way down, and into the comments, ask me your questions about the billingbased on the plan that you haveand I'd be happy to help you. Thanks for watching.
