The Definite Guide to Legal Blindness Form

youtube video

Instruction of Legal Blindness Form

[Music].hi it's Kayla I'm here with another.video and today I wanted to talk about.what it means to be legally blind I said.in my last video that I am visually.impaired which is true but that term can.often be pretty vague so a more.descriptive term is that I am legally.blind I have always been legally blind.my whole life and this really confuses.people they're like so you're blind but.you can see and yes I am blind and yes I.can see I understand why that can be.confusing so that's why I wanted to make.this video so the definition of being.legally blind is having a central visual.acuity of 20/200 or less in the better.eye with the best possible correction.and/or a visual field of 20 degrees or.less so let's break that down the first.part is a central visual acuity of.20/200 or less now this refers to when.you go to the eye doctor and they test.your vision using an eye chart where.there are rows of letters and they get.smaller as you go down so if you can.read the very last line with the.smallest letters from standing 20 feet.away that is 20/20 vision if you can.only read the very top line which.usually just consists of one letter it's.usually a biggie if you can only read.that big E and nothing else on the whole.chart from standing 20 feet away.that is 2,200 vision that means that.what someone else can see from standing.200 feet away you have to be standing 20.feet away to be able to see it and then.of course or or less refers to if you.can only see the e standing 10 feet away.or you have to be 5 feet away to be able.to see it or if you can't see the e at.all.um that would be 2200 or less now the.next part is in your better eye that.means that your best eye has to be 2200.or less so if you have 2200 vision in.one eye and 2400 vision and the other.eye you are legally blind if you have.20/20 vision in one eye and 2200 or even.2400 vision in your other eye.that's not legally blind because it's.the better eye now the next part is with.the best possible correction that means.wearing glasses or contacts so if you.put on a pair of glasses and you can.still only see the e from standing 20.feet away and nothing else you are.legally blind if you can only see the e.with your naked eyes and then you put on.glasses and you can read another five.six seven lines that doesn't count you.still have to be legally blind 2200 or.less while wearing glasses now some.people will say I'm legally blind.without my glasses or oh I'm legally.blind in one eye and those people aren't.really legally blind those things are.contradictory to the definition so the.last part is having a visual field of 20.degrees or less and this refers to your.peripheral vision so most people can see.180 degrees which means they can see.straight out on either side of them now.if you have a visual field of 20 degrees.or less I don't really know exactly what.a 20 degree angle would be to be able to.describe it but it's what is commonly.known as tunnel vision and this part is.separate from the other part of the.definition so for example someone can.have 20/20 central visual acuity which.means they can read the very bottom line.on the eye chart the 20/20 line but if.they.have this restricted visual field and.they have tunnel vision and they still.qualify as legally blind so that is what.legally blind means now I have always.been legally blind when I was young I.had 20/200 vision so I just made the cut.to be considered legally blind I always.felt like I was kind of smack dab in the.middle tearing on this line between.being blind and being sighted but now my.vision is quite a bit worse.it was pretty stable up until I was.about 18 and then it started to decrease.from there so over the past seven years.or so it's gotten noticeably worse and.if you ask me what my vision is now like.for a number 20 slash whatever I really.wouldn't be able to tell you I have no.idea what it is now it's definitely not.2,200 anymore when I go to the eye.doctor they don't test me with that.standard chart anymore and they have.letters on a screen and I don't know if.those letters are the exact same size as.they are on the paper charts and I'm.pretty sure they don't put me 20 feet.away.I think I'm ten feet away so it's hard.to say what the number is but personally.I believe that passed 20 200 once you've.been considered legally blind the.numbers don't really matter they're.pretty arbitrary at that point because.giving a number doesn't really describe.what you can see so if I can see the e.from ten feet away you know it's a big e.with the black lines and it's honest.clean so it's lit up so I can see it but.if it were a light gray E I might not be.able to see that and if it wasn't lit up.I may not be able to see it then and you.know big black lines are a lot easier to.make out than something with detail so.it's just.really subjective it's hard to say.because even if you can see an e that.doesn't really describe how you can see.so I don't know what it is I can't tell.you though in my right eye.I'm almost completely blind I can see.light and some shadow and some movement.but I really can't see anything out of.it.some people who are legally blind wear.glasses and some people don't I wear.glasses because they do help me a little.bit they make things just a little bit.clearer than I am still definitely.without a doubt legally blind with my.glasses on and this really confuses.people because they're like if you wear.glasses then can't you see or if you're.blind then why do you wear glasses and.what I want people to understand is that.blindness is a spectrum vision in.general is a spectrum there's a lot in.between having 20/20 vision and being.completely totally blind and there's a.lot in between having 20/200 vision and.being able to see absolutely nothing at.all just darkness so someone who has.20/200 vision is legally blind.twenty-five hundred twenty eight hundred.only having light perception or seeing.nothing at all just darkness all of.those people are legally blind so just.because someone can see some or just.because someone wears glasses doesn't.mean that they're not blind.because blindness is a spectrum so a.little more detail on what it means to.be legally blind that means you are.blind by law so the main thing is that.you can't drive it is illegal to drive.you cannot have a driver's license if.you are legally blind and this is not.discrimination this is for safety.someone who is legally blind would not.be a good driver it would not be safe.for them or for you if I had a license I.would be driving around like Spongebob.running over everything it would not be.good so this law is pretty important so.if you're legally blind you qualify for.government services and I don't just.mean monetary assistance.I mean services provided by the.government to help people be more.independent and live fulfilling lives so.for example when I was a child and in.school I had these people come to my.school I called the vision teachers I.don't know exactly what their name is.some type of rehabilitation specialist.of some sort but for children but.anyways they would come to my school and.they would show me different tools like.different types of magnifiers and yellow.paper to reduce glare and different.things and they would show me them and.show me how they work and then I would.decide if I wanted them or thought that.they would be helpful for me and then.they would be purchased for me so I have.those and it also had large print.textbooks and black markers provided to.my teachers for them to write on the.whiteboards with so it was easier for me.to see they taught me how to type.without looking at the keyboard when I.was in the fourth grade which was really.helpful and you know just different.things like that you are also eligible.for services as an adult you are.eligible for orientation and mobility.training if you are a child or an adult.and orientation and mobility is training.on how to use a cane and how to get.around so an instructor would come to.your school or your work and help you.just learn the layout and be better able.to navigate it there are also a lot of.program.where you can learn Braille or adaptive.cooking skills and different things that.people may need help with they can.receive training on how they do things.or be shown the latest products that.might be helpful for them and all of.these services are usually available to.the blind person for little or no cost.to them which is really great these.services are really great and and very.helpful for people so yeah that is what.it means to be legally blind I hope you.learned something.and I will see you next time.

What is it like to go blind?

I had the pleasure of being blind for a number of hours earlier this year. I say pleasure, because it was an eye opening experience (pun intended) and I had always wondered what it would be like to go blind. I have an eye condition called keratoconus. This results in varying degrees of thinning in the cornea for the sufferer. I have this in both eyes, however my left is considerably worse than my right. In March this year I had a relatively new procedure called collagen cross-linking carried out on my right eye to try and prevent it from worsening. This should, fingers crossed prevent me from poten Continue Reading

Is it legal and ethical to fill out HR-related forms on company time?

I think it's perfectly ethical to complete work-related paperwork in work time. That said, some high-pressure jobs resent you taking time to go to the bathroom let alone fill out HR papers. I had a job like that once. It sucked. My current employer is much more humane.

Is it legal to ask you to fill out a W2 form for a trial before actually being hired?

You don’t fill out W2 forms, employers issue them to employees in January to report earnings and withholding. I assume you mean the W4, which tells the employer how much to withhold. There is no reason to fill one out before being hired, particularly since it includes your SSN which you shouldn’t divulge to anyone unless necessary

What are the common mistakes that seed-funded startup founders make?

TYPICAL MISTAKES WHEN PITCHING TO INVESTORS 1.Pitching only for money One typical mistake I tend to hear (did this myself too, no miracles here) is that while pitching to investors, founders pitch for money. They don’t think that they are being evaluated on how capable they are to run this company, how charismatic they are and if they have the passion to take it to an exit. 2. Showing hockey stick and focusing on the future only Investors are not excited by seeing a hockey stick graph in you plans anymore. They want to see what a team has done instead of financial projections. 3. Wasting slides in Continue Reading

Do military members have to pay any fee for leave or fiancee forms?

First off there are no fees for leaves or requests for leave in any branch of the United States military. Second there is no such thing as a fiancée form in the U.S. military. There is however a form for applying for a fiancée visa (K-1 Visa)that is available from the Immigration and Customs Service (Fiancé(e) Visas ) which would be processed by the U.S. State Department at a U.S. Consulate or Embassy overseas. However these fiancée visas are for foreigners wishing to enter the United States for the purpose of marriage and are valid for 90 days. They have nothing to do with the military and are Continue Reading
