Presentation Rubric Form: Draft, Finish and share

hi I'm Laura McNeal and I'm here today.to talk to you about rubrics and how.they can help you in the classroom and.in your online course but first how many.times have you heard this from students.I don't really understand what we're.supposed to do for this project what's.the point of this assignment anyway why.didn't I get an A on this paper I worked.real hard on it it's not my fault I.didn't get a good grade.having a good rubric in place will help.you solve all of those issues and more.so let's unpack the rubric step by step.but first what is a rubric and what does.it look like rubrics are great for.authentic assessment of real-world tasks.like writing reports making.presentations designing experiments.demonstrating professional skills or.solving problems and here's what it.looks like a rubric is a matrix on the.left side of the matrix lists criteria.for the expected performance across the.top is the rating scale which can be.words or a points range which provides.values to determine the quality of.performance for each criterion.indicators are written inside each box.of the matrix providing examples for.each level of performance now we're.going to delve a little deeper into how.and why a rubric works we're going to.use the word rubric as an acronym to.help you remember R stands for rules U.is for understanding.B is for baseline r is for.responsibility I is for integrity and C.stands for communication r is for rules.rubrics set the rules for students what.should students learn from the task how.can students demonstrate what they've.learned what knowledge skills and.behaviors are required for the task what.steps are required and how should the.final product look or sound.you as for understanding rubrics help.students understand your assignment.authentic assessment measures how well.students use knowledge and skills in a.real context or for an authentic task.like a report for presentation authentic.assessment focuses on the ability of the.student to apply learning not to.memorize information or take tests.B is for baseline rubrics set a baseline.for students is your student okay with.making a B a rubric sets out that.measurable observable criteria does your.student want to achieve an a a rubric.gives those students the essential.elements of the learning task planned.and precise unambiguous language the.second R is for responsibility rubrics.are wonderful because they put the.responsibility back on the students.students are aware of your expectations.students are aware of the quality you.expect and you've communicated to.students how they will be evaluated I is.for integrity when well-designed and.well-thought-out rubrics are used you.can stand behind the integrity of your.grading system to that end your rubric.should yield consistent results when.used repeatedly under the same.conditions try this out with a TA or.several other instructors in your.department when two different graders.use the same rubric to grade the same.assignment they'll give similar scores.this is one way but not the only way you.can evaluate the authenticity of rubrics.C is for communication.finally rubrics are a great way to.communicate expectations to students.rubrics show that you as an instructor.care enough about the assignments and.student success to develop and share the.most important and essential elements of.the learning task that's it for now I.hope you have a better understanding of.what rubrics are how they work and.they'll help you in the classroom and in.your online courses on Laura McNeil.thanks for watching all about rubrics.[Music].

How is Purdue University for computer science? I live in India, is it worth the huge premium compared to an Indian college? What are the advantages for undergrad?

Having gone to Purdue to study for my masters I can tell you it really depends on the type of career you are looking for? I went there a while ago to study Mechanical Engineering of all things and decided to switch careers into comp sci. It's a good name on your resume but I don't think it’ll make that big of a difference in your overall career. At the end of the day getting into top tech companies depends on your successfullay passing data structures and algorithms oriented interviews. My 2 cents

How does the undergraduate computer science program at Purdue University compare to that of University of Toronto in terms of graduate school opportunities?

If you attend Purdue University, you have a major advantage to get into graduate programs in Purdue University. You also have a major advantage over students wanting to attend university graduate programs in the state of Ohio, that aren't residents of the state of Ohio. You also have an advantage over any applicant for Canada. Since we are talking about US Residents, they have an advantage over Canadian students because most universities have Federal and State subsidies. A Canadian undergrad has to apply as a International Student which has to compete for the international quota with Chinese, Japanese, Western and Easter Europeon etc. undergrads. The University of Toronto has a similar advantage for Canadian Grad Schools if you are a Canadian citizen.

How hard will it be for me to get into an MCs program in computer science at ASU with a GRE score of 315 and a UG GPA of 3.3 from Purdue University?

A2A. I am not sure which MSC program you are apply to, but I think you have a pretty good chance of getting into ASU; however, I would need to see your individual scores to see if your quantitative score is within range to say for sure.

How is University of the Pacific's reputation for Computer Science and engineering in general? If you were given a near full-ride scholarship to UOP for CS, would you pick it over a school like Purdue or UC Santa Cruz?

In a heartbeat. Uop rocks. Remember the whole shebang was funded by John chambers ala Cisco. He threw down a ton after his son graduated. Top notch. Would you rather be a tiger or a slug?

How good is computer science undergraduate program at the Purdue University compared to that of the University of Waterloo under the consideration of both academics and future prospectives? (I am an international student.)

Both offer very strong CS degree programs. Graduating from either with good grades is likely to be well-received by potential employers. The biggest issue with future employment is more likely where you want to be employed, what your citizenship is, and what laws are in place when you are seeking a position. None of those things depend on where you get your degree.

What is a rubric scale?

I can’t speak for other areas, but as a math teacher my assignments were graded largely the same. Generally for more complex problems I assigned there were multiple points available. Say a question was worth 5 points, how I would break that down Correct answer, I can follow the work, and the work doesn’t have any errors = 5. Correct answer, I can follow the work, but there’s some minor errors in either method or calculations = 4. Correct answer, but the work is messy / hard to follow = 3. No answer = 0. The 1 and 2 area for a 5 point question was a grey area that changed for me based on the question. It could be something like “correct answer, no work shown” to “incorrect answer, but the work they were doing was right; answer incorrect answer due to major arithmetic error.”

What is a good rubric?

What is a good rubric for asking a successful question? Have some idea, even if only vague, of a answer you might receive because that will help in framing the question ask in a way which might inspire someone to answer is anybody out there……? can anyone help…….? does anybody know about…….? If you receive answers your question was successful
