somewhat.speed up that process I've shared a.video not too long ago really about the.future of where waivers and.authorizations are going so I'm going to.assume you watch that as well because I.may use some verbage in here that if.it's new to you you could go back and.watch that previous video so you know.what is really to come first off how do.we differentiate between authorization.and a waiver in authorization right is.to get authorized to fly in this.specific airspace a waiver is waiving me.of a specific rules operating at night.operate over people beyond visual line.of sight I get a waiver for that now.there are some exceptions to that like.extended authorizations for airspace.really just end up becoming and being.called a waiver as an example if it's.less than six months if you're looking.to operate an airspace over a certain.time period that's less than six months.you should actually do it as an.authorization because it's simply just.easier for the FAA to approve of it now.when you're looking into waivers though.you need to really learn from others and.there really aren't as many as you think.did you know that approved waivers.there's only roughly 400 approved.waivers right now it's all public.information you can see what got others.approved if you want a nighttime waiver.start reading other nighttime waivers.that have been approved so you can learn.from them however please don't copy and.paste the FAA shared a funny story about.an individual who applied for a waiver.everything was going great they get down.to the contingency plan in a contingency.plan he typed in there and said my.entire team is trained we have this.great flight manual that has all our.contingency plans and everyone follows.that we're all on the same page the FAA.look at that so this is amazing that.someone went above and beyond they pick.the phone and called him and said listen.we love what you're doing the waiver we.love that you made a flight manual can.we see it he goes flight manual what do.you what are you talking about well they.put it all together and sure enough he.just looked at a previous waiver copied.what they had and pasted it in there he.didn't have a flight manual he probably.didn't get his waiver approved.definitely realized that as well don't.copy and paste though now you have to.realize too that if you're close the FAA.is going to try that they don't want to.deny you right they they want you to.succeed if you're close they may reach.out and help if the FAA can determine.you're a safe operator and you're close.to an approval they may call you in an.attempt to make it work and get you.approved maybe you just need to answer.one more question on your contingency.plan once they see that question they.can get you there but they have to know.that first off you're close to an.approval you're a sentence away from.getting it on a contingency plan on you.know one little performance standard.whatever it may be and they can tell.that you're a safe operator but it takes.a while to even get to that process.where they may reach out to you right.why is everything so slow right now I.shared in the previous video that.everything is done manually did you also.know that ATC doesn't really understand.the performance of drones you put in.here that oh I'm flying and inspire one.and inspire two whatever it may be.they're going to look and go well I.don't know what that is how big is it.inspired to how fast does it go how high.how quickly could it get out of the way.of an aircraft they don't understand the.performance capabilities of this drone.so when they're trying to approve you in.this facility map quadrant let's say.they don't know how quickly you could.get out of the way how quickly you could.put it down the ground and land if there.were an emergency of a manned aircraft.whatever it may be so they have to do.some research on the performance.standards of this it's still like I.shared in the previous video a manual.process it's just sent in via email it's.sorted manually it's then forwarded off.manually where someone else that.manually reads everything authorizations.wavers it doesn't matter right now it's.a 100 percent manual process and the FAA.is really after predictable.and reliability is what they want it's a.data-driven organization they want you.to be a predictable and a reliable safe.operator they want to be able to count.on you right there they're not in the.enforcement business they just they have.these rules they set for us now.something else you could do to speed up.the process and again I mean use this.word Lance I'm assuming you watch that.last video you understand what Lance is.use the Lance criteria really an old.Lance is is the notification center use.the facility map criteria so you could.access through through Lance eventually.here use that criteria to then speed up.the process if you look at the quadrant.you want to operate in for an.authorization and says we can only go up.to 100 feet well do just that put in.there a hundred feet and that really.takes me to now some my best tips if you.can operate at less than a hundred feet.say that be specific with it only choose.to when you're talking waivers the.waivers that you need one of the biggest.FAA complaints is someone goes on the.waiver sheet and I just go I want.nighttime I don't be on visual line of.sight I when they just check for.everything you can do one at a time or.just check what you truly need here and.back to the first bullet point if you.can operate less than 100 feet say that.don't ask for the full 400 feet look at.the facility Maps we have access to them.to see in that quadrant what will we.have access up to and don't ask for more.than that is the high probability it.just won't get approved follow their.performance standards when you end up on.the current waiver page it's so easy to.just scroll straight down to the forum.you get all excited and start typing but.the very top there's a little box it.says you note please read first we never.do that right we just scroll to the.bottom and it shares the performance.standards it says if you want a knight.waiver you need to show me how you're.going to do this this and this and it.spells everything out use and read the.performance standards remember that the.burden is on you to show how you won't.endanger anyone that's what this.performance standards really come around.to they want predictive.they want reliability the burden is on.you to show how you exceed all those how.you have
