Instruction of 2009 Residential Energy Conservation Form City Of Houston

[Music].what's the first city that comes to your.mind when you think of ethnic diversity.New York Los Angeles maybe even Chicago.but probably not somewhere in Texas.right well Houston Texas is actually the.most ethnically diverse city in the.United States and it has been for.several years running it's right here on.a map and as you can tell it's next to.the Gulf of Mexico which of course means.hurricanes and flooding.despite the impending doom over 2.3.million residents currently live in the.Bayou city giving Houston the 4th.largest population in America and nearly.7 million people reside in the entire.metropolitan area making it the fifth.largest in America it's also one of the.fastest growing US cities with over 250.new residents moving to the Houston.Metro every day no wonder it's so.incredibly diverse people are coming.here from all over with the population.being 37% Hispanic 37 percent white 17%.black and 8% Asian there isn't even a.majority of any race here Spanish.English and Vietnamese are the most.commonly spoken languages but.houstonians speak a combined 140.different languages altogether not to.mention the cultural diversity here.means there's always something new and.unique to explore I know right you're.probably all thinking wow Houston must.be a place for everyone but I've got to.tell you that actually it really is it.now that isn't to say that you shouldn't.move to Houston just before you do be.sure to watch my top ten reasons not to.move to Houston Texas number 10 natural.disasters hurricanes hail storms.tornadoes floods sharknadoes okay maybe.not the sharknadoes seriously who even.came up with that but everything else I.mentioned is a serious problem.Houston's unique geographical location.combined with how flat most of Texas is.means that regularly experiences all.kinds of natural disasters from tropical.storms to hurricanes which you guessed.it means tons of flooding it literally.floods here like every week in the.summer also during summer severe.thunderstorm.mornings are a common occurrence.sometimes they get really bad and even.turn into tornado warnings which means.it's time to take cover in your basement.until oh wait yeah you don't actually.have a basement since Houston is.practically built on a swamp yay but hey.at least Houston doesn't get hit as hard.as Dallas as it technically isn't in.tornado alley but they still come I mean.it is Texas and what would Texas be.without a bit of rumbling tumbling.tumbleweed tornado tongue number nine.high property taxes now Texas actually.has no state income tax which is one of.the reasons why so many people are.moving here but not so fast there buster.don't go thinking that means you can get.away tax-free especially not in Houston.property taxes are a lot higher than.average in many parts of the city not to.mention the eight point two five percent.sales tax that tends to balance things.out just remember the good old cynical.rule if something seems too good to be.true it probably is.then again the sales tax in Los Angeles.is actually nine point five percent and.do they have to pay anywhere from nine.to twelve point three percent income tax.so that kind of makes you stand still.look pretty good or maybe it just makes.la look even worse yeah probably that.one number eight it's really spread out.well Houston might be similar to New.York or Chicago and that it's very.diverse unlike New Yorker Chicago.Houston isn't restricted by its.geography because of this rather than.building up the population explosion.over the past half century has spread.out in every possible direction.this is resulted in a metro area.stretching over nine thousand four.hundred and forty four square miles.larger than the entire state of New.Hampshire but you know what they say.everything is bigger in Texas even.without traffic getting from place to.place is time-consuming and also unlike.New York where only ten percent of.residents own a car over 90 percent of.Houston residents own a car and if.you're still wondering why well it's.because you need a car to live here the.actual city of Houston itself is six.hundred and thirty seven square miles.across the third largest city by total.area you can literally fit San Francisco.Manhattan Chicago Boston.and Washington DC inside of Houston and.still have room to spare now the city is.trying to improve its walkability.bikeability and public transportation.but they're all currently ranked even.worse than Los Angeles's that's just bad.number 7 it's hot and humid remember all.that water I talked about earlier well.they don't call it the Bayou City for.nothing Houston was literally built on a.swamp and swampy marsh land means.humidity and a lot of it that's right if.you've got the H and H town stood for.Houston now you know it actually stands.for heat and humidity it'll be in the.90s from April through October and this.is in the dry heat like in Phoenix.oh no this humidity literally makes you.feel like you're choking on wet cotton.balls until you're convinced you're.going to die.I take 120 degrees in the desert any day.over 95 in Houston.it's no joke folks I remember being down.here in the middle of August and walking.literally two blocks made me so drenched.in sweat and my friend thought I went.swimming with my clothes on.air-conditioning is a must here at least.there is a bit of a trade-off though.since it's not really cold in the winter.months well for the most part number six.guns while unlike the rest of Texas.Houston is very liberal and progressive.the gun laws remind you that this is.Texas after all other than the permits.needed to carry handguns Texas doesn't.require a permit registration or license.to open carry any other type of gun.including shotguns and military-style.weapons you can carry your gun of choice.anywhere really.even on college campuses as long as you.comply with the concealed carry laws oh.and while we're on the topic of guns I.should probably warn you Castle Doctrine.is in full effect here when they say.trespass at your own risk they really.mean it now I'm not saying that this is.a good or a bad thing if you're thinking.of moving to Texas already then this is.probably a plus for you but regardless.it's just something that you should be.aware of before moving here in case it.isn't what you're used to number five.traffic if you move to Houston I really.hope you like your car because you're.gonna be spending a lot of time in it.rush hour is over two hours long here.and while you can avoid.some traffic with the seriously.overpriced toll roads even those are.still packed with cars during the rush.hours some areas of town even have a.rush hour during lunch now I know.Houston does have some of the best food.in the country but come on now that's.just excessive I'd probably just post.Bates or something and I definitely.wouldn't take a bus like I said earlier.public transportation here is awful.especially during rodeo season and the.city's just too large to bike or walk in.most areas basically if you don't work.from home you're probably gonna be stuck.in traffic for at least a couple hours a.day number four no zoning laws Houston.is actually the largest city in the.country with no zoning laws or building.regulations.this can be awesome because it means.that literally any area of the city.could be the next desirable neighborhood.the downside though is that a strip club.could up it up right next door to your.house anything from a high rent.high-rise condo to a cheap gas station.could get squeezed next to that property.you just bought and since Houston just.keeps growing you really never know.what's gonna go up in your neighborhood.next these are just some of the weird.sights you see while driving through.Houston seriously there are skyscrapers.far away from downtown sticking out like.a sore thumb in some random suburban.neighborhood the way Houston is built.kind of looks like a toddler set up a.Monopoly board blindfolded number three.allergies okay this one's a random fact.but Houston has the highest tree pollen.count in the country almost double that.of Waco which has the second highest in.America even if you don't have allergies.you'll still get a stuffy nose and.wafting through the air alongside all.the pollen allergens is smog Houston is.the ninth worst city for ozone pollution.in the United States which makes sense.considering all that driving everyone.has to do oh and remember that humidity.that we mentioned earlier yeah breathing.in all that humid pollinated smog isn't.exactly your respiratory systems dream.come true number two bugs while you're.at the drugstore picking up that allergy.medication don't forget to grab some bug.spray too cuz oh boy are you gonna need.it all kinds of critters environments.thrive in this humid swampland we're.talking spiders fire ants wasps.mosquitoes gnats and roaches just to.name a few not to mention coral snake.makes water moccasin snakes copperheads.snakes and rattlesnakes if that sounds.familiar it's probably because those are.all four of the venomous snakes found in.the United States but don't worry.there's other snakes too the most.commonly encountered snakes are the.relatively harmless Texas rat snake and.earth snake which you might as well just.consider pets because you will.undoubtably find a lot of them by your.home but honestly the worst of them all.are the giant mosquitos says again that.darn emitting he makes everything grow.bigger since you know everything is.bigger in Texas.now before we get to number one leave a.like and subscribe I'm trying to do two.to three new videos every week comment.down below any city states or video.ideas you want me to do and without.further ado number one unpredictable.weather Houston is that that sort of.latitude where it really tries to be.Miami but can't quite make it so while.it's hot and humid here in the summer.winter temperatures can swing back and.forth between the 70s or 80s and the 20s.all within the same day you better love.doing laundry cuz it can get really.frustrating having to change your.clothes multiple times a day or I guess.you could just get like twelve pairs of.those pants that unzip into shorts.anyways there's a reason they call cold.fronts in Texas blue North errs.basically there's nothing but flat.ground between Texas and the Arctic.which sends cold winds down just for.kicks with seemingly no warning at all.sky turns to an icy blue black and the.temperature can drop 20 to 30 degrees in.just a few minutes speaking of red and.temperature changes there really aren't.any seasons here just randomness one day.it's 80 degrees then in the 20s for a.few days and suddenly back up to 90 and.yes while it's usually warm here that.doesn't mean it doesn't snow compared to.other cities of the same latitude it.actually snows quite a lot it even.snowed here less than a year ago on.November 13th 2018 and yes I know I.didn't have to say 2018 because I.already said it was last year but I just.didn't want there to be any confusion.now if in the Houston a few times as.well as Galveston and I actually really.enjoy it there apart from the humidity.there's such a cool blend of all types.of cultures a ton of fun things to do.and see and literally a million.restaurants to choose from Houston.really is a thriving.her city with a lot to be proud of but.just like any city it isn't perfect if.you do move to Houston though don't.forget those zipper pants.
