of us are going to.present to you our solution of the.storage tank inspection and calibration.this is not a technical training we.really wanted to use this webinar as a.introduction to this this opportunity we.have had a unique solution for storage.tank inspection and calibration.intramural reworks.for some time already but we've also.recognized that not too many art be.using this yet well there are.opportunities out there in almost every.country so we wanted to take this.webinar to talk a little bit more and.explain what the storage tank inspection.and tank calibration is these are two.different things often.Sheena's probably the same thing but.there are actually quite different.symbol will explain that will then.explain what Trimboli words and then.actually offers in this space and how.you can benefit from a significant work.for productivity increase using thermal.real works and then after that we will.continue with explaining a little bit.where the opportunities are how you can.potentially find them and how we can.further help you to explore this this.opportunity and both Ted and Fernando.will drive most of this this webinar so.without any further delay I want to hand.it over to Ted to start with the.introduction of the obvious solution.thank you very much Ronald just first of.all just make sure I hope everybody hear.me okay if not please give us an.indication if if that's not the case as.Ronald says my name is 20 people so Ted.as more people call me and I'm gonna do.the the bulk part of this presentation.regarding inspection and calibration.with laser scanning and as Ronald said.it's not a technical presentation it's.really about learning what tank.inspection and tank deliberation is and.then hopefully you can get a better.understanding of what is what is this.systems offer so a very quick overview.of what we can look at today so we're.gonna speak a little bit about storage.tanks so what are they and probably.obvious to a lot of people but will.still still have a look at them and then.we touch on the specifics that this.we're actually talking about two.solutions there is an awful lot of.people who kind of mix this up the.calibration and the inspection whereas.the calibration seems to be the one that.people understand and not everybody kind.of pick up that there is also an.inspection element so we will look at.what is the difference around it and.then we gotta go in and look at what is.tank inspection what is what is it.inspector do and what is driving these.specific work tasks where do they come.from and so on and then what can Trimble.reworks offer in terms of these.particular deliverables and we'll do.that same with the calibration you know.where where does the calibration systems.comes from who is kind of defining what.calibration is and then we quickly look.at what tremble and Reed works of.Trimble made works offer in terms of a.solution for this a 10:00 at the end a.little bit about you know the.opportunity that sits around and we.speak broadly broadly speaking about you.know how many tanks are out there and.and these things and then I will round.off my part a little bit in how you know.our group can help you as a distributor.and then at the end Fernando will speak.a little bit about us from a key a key.account side the sales process that can.go around this so that's the that's the.agenda for the presentation and of.course we will we will take questions at.the end so please there is a lot of.people in here so if you can.just have questions into the question.window up at the ends then we'll try to.go through them as best we can so first.of all storage tanks.what are these well I think we've seen.them different places they are what we.call vertical above-ground storage tanks.so typically the tanks you see at these.picture here they come in a in an in a.variety of complexity they some have.roofs some have floating roofs on a.fixed roof and typically they're used.for petroleum products and chemicals.that's where that's where really we see.it is there are all the tanks types out.there but when we talk about the.solution we're currently doing today.these are really the tanks where we're.talking about they can be big and.complex structure over 30 meter tall or.100 meter in diameter so they are their.big big complex structure even though.they might just look like a round shell.last but not least there are several.thousands of these in service worldwide.that need either or that need in most.cases bolt calibration and inspection so.why if you look at these these things as.I say we need to separate between two.particular tasks because these are not.necessarily the same first we have what.we call tank inspection and tank.inspection is really the process of.visually or electronically determine the.physical state of the tank so basically.looking at the tanks and is current.state in what kind of kind of state this.tank is in so it's a physical thing in.order to see where and how this.particular tank is the other solution we.talked about this is what we call tank.calibration and tank calibration is more.about or is all about.the correct volume of whatever substance.is in this tank and that is done very.often or in most cases because of legal.requirements for either counting in tax.purposes so you can see these these two.and are are quite different in terms of.what they offer the first one is.actually something a lot of very.traditional survey companies can go and.do most of them will in cases have to go.and get themselves certified to do so.but it can be a quite lucrative extra.business area to go into for a survey.company to actually do the calibration.bit is probably more specialized.companies that do which can of course.also do the inspection but we do have.several survey customers that's gone.into the inspection element of this.without actually touching on the.calibration side of it so keep these two.element and separated inspection and.calibration as they are two different.solutions which both can be done in.intra Barry works now if we first look.at the tank inspection side of thing.that's the one we look at first what.what can cause you know these tanks to.to follow ur as I said they are big.metallic structures standing there and.of course they they have a number of.elements that can affect them so for.example corrosion has a big impact on.these wind and whether they are big and.bulky structures that stands out there.seismic activity for those that are.placed in areas which have seismic.activity probably not too much of it in.in Europe but there's plenty of places.out there that that has these type of.activities and an impacts that be you.know vehicles cranes building processes.these type of things can influence them.and then we have overfilling.so actually they've put.much into these tanks or over an.under-pressure.tanks that goes more on the on the one.that has some sort of gas system in it.all these elements can have some sort of.physical indication on these tanks which.which to some degree can damage them.that's not good and then base the.questions why why did I do that well.they're expensive to build and.maintenance of this is a lot less.expensive than than to replace them last.but not least of course the typical.products that sits in these tanks the.environmental impacts if these these.things goes down is is in most cases.horrific to to all of us we've probably.all seen the mess that goes bad or that.that goes in to the environment if these.things goes down that either be both.land and ground so there is a huge.there's a huge interest for for all.parties not only economical interest but.also environmental interest to make sure.that these products is always up to - to.speed or to where they need to be in.terms of being in that in the in the.shape they should be so what kind of.what drives and inspection requirements.well there are a number of standards out.there that could very specifically down.to what that is - and the various.government and also individual companies.will will have their own elements on on.how this to be done but in many cases.and probably most cases that the steps.they do is driven by some of these.standards you see here American.Petroleum Institute API standard is one.that's used quite a lot and the ISO.standards has elements on how to do this.steel tank Institute and so on and then.Isis a regulation by governments and.also recommend regulations by in.the medieval companies in terms of in.terms of how they do it so that's kind.of sets out the rules and regulation of.of what to and how to do this specific.elements of it so if you look at some of.the inspection types that typical you.have to go through for for inspection so.first of all you have what we call the.routine or what call in service.inspection this is typical something.that's done you know at least once a.month it's predominantly a visual.inspection you go around you look go.over the surface of this of the tank and.you you clearly look for any kind of.damage or some sort of indication that.this tank is having a problem with some.some sort of indication let's say that's.a routine inspection the next one is.what we call a visual external.inspection it is a lot more thorough.it's typical done between two and five.year and it's normally done by somebody.that's certified to do that inspection.job it's as I say it's its it involves a.lot more to do it so you know.involvement removal of coating paint you.know scratch it all that kind of stuff.so they go through the surface of tank a.lot more thorough err than that done.before and again they're the aim here of.course is to to see any kind of.indication that the tank has problem at.a particular place a last one or the.last one then we have what we call an.external ultrasonic inspection this is.done every five year and it's then you.start looking at the thickness of the.steel so they typically how this.instrument that they those who haven't.seen they kind of they crawl all over.the shell quite quite slowly and it's.kind of an ultrasonic inspection on yeah.and I get some sort of measurement of.the various thickness of the plates that.sits there and also things like welds.and these type of things to see that.they are they are all right that's also.done of course by a certified inspector.to do this and then the last one which.is kind of the very very big one it's.the internal inspections.it's a typical done every 10 year again.by a certified inspector and I usually.done what we call an out-of-service.inspection so they need to be emptied.for people to go through that this is a.very thorough inspection of everything.and you can see in the picture say they.are complex these ones there are steel.beams the roofs ceilings and all that.kind of stuff and they look at various.elements of this of this tanks which is.the floor the settlement and the general.shape of that of that type and again it.is these these standards that define.exactly what these what you are to look.for here so for example in terms of.reporting here you're looking for and.reporting on for example if whether a.tank is standing straight if it started.to sink anywhere if there's any of the.steel beam that starting to be bend so.the body and these type of things the.whole tank is tilting and they also.start to look at things like you know is.it still the tank round it's just.something to do to to bulge anywhere and.they go through the welding size of it.and and these type of things so that.it's a very very thorough inspection for.foreseeing the physical shape and a.physical quality of the tank and how.about is could put together now these.EPA standards is also defining how they.go about to do this so one of the things.they do for example is to put in what.they called a stations so these stations.are basically vertical lines all around.the tank they always opposite each other.and the size of the tank.normally dictate how many of these these.stations you put in and they can then.give you indications of how kind of.smooth that surface of that tank will be.whether it start bending and in and out.and bulging and and so on as you as you.go go out you also put in or look at the.roundness of the whole tank and you do.that at so-called core courses which is.kind of something you put in at a.vertical interval typical the main.courses they go around the welding band.so when you when you see they build.these tanks take they go in it at quite.wide metallic bands that's put together.and then they weld it around but they.also put in other courses that goes over.and across these these these courses at.various tips in order to get out.information and again all to find out.the physical side and shape of this tank.in terms of how its how its put to put.together nope.that brings us till you know taking on a.Lacey's carriage so what is a laser.scanner why is that good for doing these.type of inspection works or or some of.that inspection works well it's very.quick to do a laser scan of one of these.things girls very quick I think we all.know how a lace is kind of work and it's.and it's captured data very quickly it.also capture data very accurately.compared to the more traditional manual.situations on how they do it is easy to.visualize it's easy to see the results.very very easy and because you have.these dense data and so on how much data.it's a lot easier to go in and and and.create both settlement analyzers and.also the distortion analyzers off the.tank which you know you will have to do.some sort.a much more manual emotional time.concerning way by using for example just.a traditional local station and also.because we have all this data and the.dense net of the data and you get kind.of extra capability to also go and take.out measurements of the tanks that can.be used for for other things now for.this particular process we created the.advanced tank module and as I said one.of two workflow that's put into there.was the inspection bit and we've then.basically gone in and we taken these APA.standards and we've looked at you know.with course in cooperation with people.that doing this the workflow that needs.to go through in order to cover some of.these inspection methods and also then.in order to get solve these required.reports out in a kind of neat workflow.and streamlined way so the user kind of.takes this this true so very quickly in.terms of how you do this in in reworks.you clean the dataset so that you really.can just focus on the tank shell you.configure your stations.you define your courses and any other of.the vertical measurements then you set.your tolerance values and based on that.it can then generate these reports.according to the standards that it needs.to come out and then you export out for.a very very quick workflow in order to.to get it to get it out so very quickly.what you know we you will see and do in.read works to do this so clean the data.sets and here we have similar automatic.features like you have in the.classification tools so basically this.is a classification tools that go in and.we'll try to strip off anything that.shouldn't be part of the shell ourselves.so stairs any valves any pipes and.things like that goes out of the shell.will automatically take out so speeding.up the process of getting a clean clean.clean shell out of that.then you can go in and you define your.stations so these are the vertical.stations that goes around and then you.define your courses which is the.horizontal line plus the other the.horizontal line it take in there that's.kind of defining what and where we're.gonna look at the reporting and from.there on you put in your tolerances so.we're and between the values is the.system gonna either report a pass or a.fail and then you produce a report and.they can look typically like this in.this case you have a roundness report.that says something or how round.this tank is and these values are.excited rated so they look worse than.they they are but they're really there.for visualization so you can see.anything that's in between the two green.lines which is your tolerances it's good.anything outside is it's red and it will.give you the value and it will also give.you an indication of where you are it.also gives you the horizontal side of.things so in this case you can see it's.basically how the side of that tank at a.particular station will will buckle or.not buckle and for example on this this.report here the bottom part you can set.different tolerances and typically the.bottom part of the tank has stricter.tolerances just because that's where a.lot of the weight sets so you would you.would have stricter tolerance it's.further to pound and what you for.example would would have straighter up.and then you export the ease these are.according to how they should be out as a.report so very very quick very.straightforward in a very easy way to.generate and do this type of work.then of course you you have a lot of.this data you can also do more analysis.on them so you can go in and use one of.the inspection tools so you get kind of.a cut fit map off the whole tank shell.and from there on you can go in and.analyze you know is there any of these.areas that needs further further work so.if you find the place of interest it's.very easy to mark it and of course as.its marked you can then export it and.you can take it back back out in the.field so it's very easy to find it by.for example using a total station to set.out these marks and find the particular.place where there might be an interest.because it's as I say some of these can.be very very very big so it's not always.that easy just to see it by body butter.or your eyes so to speak the bible's the.tank inspection so the first part of.this the other part we talk about is.what we call tank calibration and as to.say tank calibration is all about you.know what is inside the tank what's the.volume inside our tank and it's.traditionally done because of legal.requirements for either finance raishin.or mostly for finance raishin tax.purposes accounting and these type of.things.so this is quite quite strict required.for for for a lot of things there is.there's some of the same requirements of.some of the same standards that goes.around these ones so ISO the IP I again.is used quite often there are some other.ones that also used in terms of the.practices and how to do this so to speak.now tank calibration in most cases is a.lot more strict when it comes to the.instrument you use for doing this so for.example a total station in general is.and approved instruments to do so there.is a number of other.instruments - but laser scanning is a.relatively new type of equipment um this.industry isn't necessarily is removed.quickest on some of the adaptation to.these things or know what it is that's.probably marry where it will sit so this.is probably area where you will mostly.meet the requirements for having some.sort of calibration or some sort of.approval in order to take the laces.candidate in there in terms of the.software itself we also try to follow.these standards in terms of how it do.some of these calculations according to.the standards they're talking about.calibration and approval for the talk.for the laser scanner itself we don't.have a as I said assisted it's regulated.very much individually from country to.country in terms of how they they do it.there isn't there isn't like one.approval that you can take for example.just a TX eight and and doníts approved.to do this type of work in most cases.they would probably require that each.individual laser scanner will have to go.through some sort of that's going to be.used for the job has to go through some.sort of approval at least to start with.now in Germany they've just done this.they've taken a couple of tx8 through.this process it's gone through so we.know that the TX eight is it's a laser.scanner that that that will go through.this process we know it's a laser.scanner that will pass this and that can.be used to do this type of work so if.there are people that come into this.situation we have processes and places.where we know we can go and get this.done true right so some of the metals.used for this and when you know what a.laser scanner does you can of course ask.yourself why is it so strict to get it.done and it has really something to do.with it that the industry itself so one.of them is some of the methods they're.using today is what we call manual.strapping it basically means it's a.measuring band that goes around the tank.and they read it off and they move it.upward is noppers operas or downwards.and then they create volumes out of that.optical reference line optical.triangulations to use total station type.instruments internal total station.instruments of course some an M also to.fill the tank with Walter and then.keeping tapping how much that goes in.and out now again a lot of these are.time consuming methods in terms of of.how do you do it.and tank calibration has some other.challenges too of course it's it's when.you go inside of them they don't.necessarily be around.they have very irregular surfaces so if.you're doing some of these manual matter.to do so earlier you don't necessarily.capture that volume as good and then you.have what we call internal structures.Deadwood's so inside of them is big.steel beams and stuff like that which is.very very difficult to capture with.methods like strapping and any kind of.total station measurements there they're.not easy to capture these the volumes of.these ones now that brings us to so why.might what's the lace is kind of good.for this well again very accurate data.you capture a lot of dense and dense.data so it's very easy to get really the.whole density of the surface because it.gets so much of it and also if you do it.internally it's a lot easy to get the.real dead width of the real shape and.form of whatever sits inside of the.tanks in order to get get that out so.that kind of brings us to the second.thing that's implemented in the tank.module of Trimble real works this is the.capability to do calibration with it I'm.similar with the inspection we have a.dedicated workflow that goes to deal.with that so this is things like import.and register port la later similar and.clean it clean unwanted structures so.exact.the same process as previous where you.get any of destruction that shouldn't be.there off and then you go in and it sets.what's called the sump and top fill.levels so basically at the bottom and.the top part you don't generate an.initial calibration table and then you.apply correction parameters and there's.a set procedure for these parameters and.how they go and from there you generate.the final calibration table so very.quickly in Trimble reworks.import register and clean it and then.you set your values that's the value is.normally not just at the bottom part of.the tank this quite often is little bit.further up where they actually do the.measurements from but that's where you.set what we call the sump which is which.is the bottom part and then the top fill.elevation of it it generates from that.and initial calibration files or the.initial table for four for two to use.and the next thing you then have to do.is to import and apply correction.parameters so these are parameters for.plate thickness it can have things like.you know how much is still moving and so.on and so on density of the liquid and.and whatever goes in there so these.table can vary a lot depending on.exactly the type of liquid that's in.there so what we've done there in.Trimble railroad Stan is to try to.accommodate for these particularly work.flow so these these things can go in.there and then you generate that final.calibration table which gives you that.calibration data a last but not least of.course both for the calibration and the.inspection you can of course use the.visualizer to send the data to the.client they can be sure if they can see.they can annotate they can share and so.on in terms of seeing these these data.true the publisher that sits in Trimble.River.babbles very briefly very quickly about.what tank inspection and tank.calibration in general is all about and.as I've said to a lot of people when I.go around there if you know anybody that.looking for new business that's not only.us producing this but any survey or or.survey company who's looking for going.into an area they haven't particularly.done before there is opportunity in this.type of thing to work with.so looking at the world wide side of it.there is a lot 500,000 medium to large.tanks sitting worldwide there's an awful.lot of them the average internal.inspection interval for these tanks is.roughly 10 years so they're the internal.big bin inspections that means roughly.sir there's about 50,000 tanks.inspection annually but could involve.the use of laser scanning technology the.industry itself is kind of two sides.slow tech adaptation not because they.don't want to but it's more because a.lot of this hasn't been introduced to.them that using their very little kind.of specialized system for doing this so.they're using very generic of the shelf.products such as all to CAD anybody.don't want to have a look at compare how.for example you can do this in real.works if you search top tank inspection.or tank calibration you will find a.number of YouTube videos that's showing.how people do this in AutoCAD and you.can very quickly see that that workload.is an awful lot of much and backward.compared to the streamline stuff we've.done in in in Trembley ropes so most of.the places we've been with this both the.customer and market this is absolutely.open for these advanced systems though.it probably means it needs to be two.working times in some cases to get them.through and last but not least.there isn't many older manufacturer out.there that but do this today I up till.just recently I think Trimble was the.only one who did it.I think Leica has released a package.true their software package which they.trying to do something similar but I'm.not entirely sure how far they managed.to to get but with that so this is.absolutely something that's it's valid.for four out there just you know take a.very quick step on where and these.things are so this is this is a very.quick search on some of the tanks you.you can find around the world as for.example this is Rotterdam which of.course is a big city when it comes to.these things but if you look at the.number of storage tanks there you can.see there's quite a lot of them not.every one of the tanks you see here are.that they open big tanks that you could.use for laser scanner but it's still an.indication of the amount of these these.structures that sits around and pretty.much all of them need some sort of boat.inspection and calibration in terms of.where they where they are but Raman all.I did a little bit of of check just you.know how quickly can be or how easy it.is define data for or find these.companies to do some so I did a very.quick search here in the UK and within.minutes I could find a number of.companies but the do this type of work.that both be tank inspection and the.tank calibration and Lisa companies and.I've been with Trimble for many many.years that I've never really had.anything to do and each one of them are.potentially a new client for us to go.and visit and and do something with I.did the same thing for Norway and again.by very little search on the internet I.found a number of companies that go and.do this this type of work and also if.you sit and read through their web pages.you can see a lot of these these.standards is is referenced true so API.ISO and these things that ago there's.clearly shows that this is the wind.that's been followed.Ronald it is same for for for Hollen and.again here number of companies comes up.that's into this particular market which.is which is good so how can how can we.help you to to take this forward from.from where we are now well we can do.more of what we call awareness training.on the content so more of what I'm doing.right now explain and talk about what.this isn't was involved in it we can do.training on it so specific Trimble.Viereck tank training for those of you.who haven't touched this much that's.going more into the technical part on.how to in Trimble Iraq we can either do.that office based or web based depending.on that situation for the opportunity we.can help your demonstration off the.solution so you know take tank data true.and show what comes that and again we.can do the webinars and of course if the.opportunity is it's big enough we can we.can also come and help with site visits.we do have eternal expertise within.Trimble you know one as part on.developing these specific solutions.people being out there but also in terms.of people who go and see these customers.and help out with demonstrations and we.also have a number of customers already.using solution vid you know vid very.good good feedback probably won't fit.absolutely everyone but we still believe.that this is and this is an area that.it's worth exploring for most of us to.see if we can we can get some more so.summary for me here before I hand over.to Fernando is laser scanning is an.absolutely very efficient for doing both.tank inspection and the calibration it.greatly reduced the field time.as well as it capture a lot lot more.data than I will ever get this helps for.the automation both in the time it.creates to produce the deliverables they.need but also the accuracy of it.and there is absolutely opportunities.for any professionals that works with.lasers campaign to expand into this.industry to get some increased business.and with that I will hand it over to.Fernando Fernando can you hear me yeah.me yes I can hear you do you want me for geospatial.in Europe Middle East and Asia and.Africa sorry so I will shortly share.with you some of the same things in.order to reach out some new customers.for this tank inspection and calibration.so you can move to the next slide please.okay there are several ways you can.reach your customers the first one and.the most obvious is to talk to the can.calibration and inspection companies.which are your main potential customers.secondly we can reach out their.customers for the end users which is.petrochemical or language agriculture.but in fact anyone who has storage needs.that can be that can fit our our.solution and by doing that you can then.search for their suppliers and also.there are some regional exhibitions but.you can participate and attend in order.to reach new customers next one please.we have made a small analysis of some of.the companies that you can find.worldwide that are working in this.industry as you can see there are some.national examples but also we have some.companies that we believe are.international.have international presence like Bureau.Veritas tooth Roback SGS and in those.companies the best advice from from our.side would be to just type the name of.the company and in your country your own.let's say web websites and try to find.out which is a local representative and.just contact them and if you feel that.in any of the international companies.you are experiencing travel to reach the.right person to take the decision or.very often they say to you you have to.talk to the headquarters etc please drop.me an email and we will try to help you.on international organizations next one.please.so for end-users I just took some some.of them by size you can find.petrochemical companies you can find oil.and gas companies and in fact just by.typing tank inspection and calibration.or tank inspection or fan calibration.you can find a lot of companies.obviously it's very difficult to reach.those companies because they are quite.big organizations but eventually in your.network you have some let's say.relations keep some people that you know.working in these organizations.eventually they can help you find in who.are their suppliers also by talking to.the surveying companies are engineering.companies in your country some of them.are already in this field and I really.recommend you that when you do any visit.to your surveying companies in your own.country you mentioned to them if they.are in this industry sometimes you have.some nice nice surprises.and lives alone where we go so just.before I give the word very simple from.the sales approach there are four four.four different literary ideas that you.can talk to your customers aside from.the from the technical approach the.first one is that it's a sale solution.you have people around you have.dangerous workflows which is safe for.them it's been going to increase their.safety it's an error free there is no.need to use pen and paper and you will.have a lot of data which is stored in.there in your software you will have.added value information and accurate.information that it could be interesting.for the customers and also it will be.fast so we are increasing the.productivity so those are the four let's.say sales tools that you can use when.you reach your customers and I think.most of them will be interested thank.you very much Fernando that was
